Focus All of Your Energy, Not on Fighting the Old, But Building the New    by CR Jacobs

Socrates once said, “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”  A novel idea, practical and sound.   Yet, how can we build something new when we are presently combatting remnants of the old? Will 2021 bring new beginnings or the continuation and uncertainty of a life lived through multiple pandemics?   Are we able to live beyond our fears, the grief, the loss? How can we truly embrace the possibility and promise that awaits us in 2021?

As the clock struck 12, there was a deep sigh of relief and release from an arduous 2020.  We made it, we crossed over!   However, what does a New Year actually signify?  Change, resolutions, hope, regrets, life lessons or perhaps, all of the above.  This new year is very different from years past.  It represents perpetual social distancing, sanitizing, masks, variants and vaccines.  We are charged with making new meaning of life and hopeful for a future different from the past.

Moving forward, it is imperative that we understand that change is the only constant.  How we embrace change determines the trajectory of one's future and path.  We are not going back to a world prior to 2020.   Thus, renew your mind, have faith and reposition yourself.   Build your muscle of stillness, resilience and perseverance.  Build your army with empathy and a community of conscious, brave and caring individuals. Engage in multiple acts of self-care, understanding that self-care is not selfish.  Last but not least, embrace life, embrace love, live restoratively and love unconditionally.   Happy New Year!
